Colores absentes (from Latin: absent colours) is a personal project based on an experiment. The starting point was a series of night photographs titled Insomnia in which, for many years, I have been documenting urban spaces marked by human – often destructive – presence. My intention was not to faithfully recreate the landscape, but rather to transfer what fascinates me about night photography – street lights, textures, and compositions – into a studio setting.
In the project, I use construction waste and recycled materials – seemingly worthless objects that, in a different context and with the right means of expression, take on a new form. Colour, which in my case resists simple definitions, became the axis of this project. Its presence, displacement, and ambiguity served as a stimulus for further exploration. By submitting to the experiment, I examine to what extent my personal aesthetic preferences and perception of urban space influence the creation of studio works.
Colores absentes is a reality viewed from a perspective often considered mistaken. The project reflects on the idea that what we might dismiss as imperfect or unnecessary may – in another context – reveal its unexpected potential.

Tomek Albin is a visual artist, photographer, and video director who merges the language of art with the aesthetics and tools of the commercial world. His work represents a carefully composed and visually cohesive dialogue of light, detail, and meaning — blending a reflection on form with inspirations drawn from geometry, sculpture, and nature. He is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań and the Film School in Łódź, where he completed the project Colores absentes (2025) as the culmination of his doctoral studies. His works have been exhibited internationally, including at Out of Poland at Arena 1 in Santa Monica, USA (2019), Ressemblances at Galerie HfBK Brühlsche Terrasse in Dresden, Germany (2018), and at FF Gallery in Łódź (2019). He is a recipient of industry awards such as the KTR Awards and Epica Awards. For many years, he has been affiliated with the Film School in Łódź as a lecturer. Through his own studio, he actively supports the development of young artists. Sharing knowledge, inspiring, and mentoring new generations on their creative paths are integral parts of his professional practice.
